Awards fever is at an all time high these days with the recently concluded Academy Awards. However, a winner of a much different prestigious award has recently been announced and it is for VFX Japan 2014′s Video Game Award which went to the faaaaaaaaaaaaaabulously action-packed fighting game, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle.
The fighting game faithfully recreates the manga feel of Hirohiko Araki’s classic shounen manga and gives it a more modern feel with some new Cell-shaded 3D imagery (along with plenty of those fabulous poses which Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is famous for).
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle was also praised for its stylish and unique game play as well as its great sound effects.
Namco Bandai producer Noriaki Niino released a statement for the game’s victory:
We are very thankful to receive such a prestigious award such as the VFX Japan 2014 Video Game Award. We went through a lot of trial and error to reproduce Hirohiko Araki’s artwork that has convinced many Jojo fans. We are very pleased that the game is so well received by everyone. We would also like to thank Hirohiko Araki, CyberConnect2 Ltd., Shueisha and everyone else who helped us in making this game possible.
The game’s designer, Hiroshi Matsuyama from CyberConnect2 Ltd. also issued a statement:
I would like to thank the development staff who truly brought Hirohiko Araki’s concepts to life and brought us this great game software. It took us a lot of trial and error to complete this game. Even if half a year has passed since the game was released back in August 2013, we are happy to have gotten to this point and having won this hard-earned prize. I would like to devote myself more and more to the development staff. Thank you.
The game was released last August 2013 in Japan and received much praise from critics. Famitsu gave the game a perfect score of 40/40 and has received over 500,000 pre-orders.
