Chinese fan lists fifty common features of anime & manga

One anime fan in China has finally taken it upon himself to point out what every anime fan already knows: many anime and manga series possess recurring features.



Each anime may have its own unique plot and characters, but sometimes there’s some overlap in what happens or how main protagonists look or act.


Below are 11 of the 50 common features of anime the Chinese blog post pointed out, as translated and mentioned in an article on RecordChina.

1. The protagonist’s hair is usually spiky.


2. The protagonist is usually 15 or younger, and the savior of a group of people.

4. There is always a girl or friend that is important to them.


5. There is always a parent, mentor, or coach who is usually a protective character.

6. On occasion a boss character turns out to be someone the protagonist admired.

7. The protagonist’s life is as hard to crush as a cockroach. If not, the protagonist will not make it to the boss.


8. The two will usually deal the final blow simultaneously.


9. The forbidden technique of the show will always have some cost to balance it.


10. The ultimate technique of any Gundam is self destruction.
