Thanks to a special character popularity survey that KyoAni for their boys-in-swim-club TV anime series Free!, fans are able to get a taste of what the world would be like if the main characters starred in an otome game adaptation.
For those unfamiliar with otome games, they’re essentially the female equivalent of dating sims and visual novels for guys. With shows like UtaPri getting their start in an otome game, it makes sense for Free! to try and become one too: which is likely what the people at the KyoAni Shop thought too, as they used it to help survey fans to gain a better sense of which direction they should go with merchandise.
To start off the survey, you enter your name before choosing your favorite character, who you will spend the day with. You can choose from any of the main five characters.
They will then spend the day with you after asking what you do, as in are you a student of some sort or in the workforce, and what you enjoy doing on your days off.
Depending on your answer it will trigger a new scenario. The movie one, for instance, will trigger you going to the movies with the character you selected and playing a UFO game after.
Yes, KyoAni is trying to find what form they should bring Free! to fans in next. Should they make more straps? More figures? A novel or movie? You can help decide in a fun way by taking the survey on the KyoAni shop here!
