Gundam Unicorn Unit 3 and Marble Statue unveiled in Odaiba

Odaiba has now become THE Mecca for Gundam and Gunpla fans worldwide. Not only can you see the life-size RX-78-2 Gundam right outside Diver City but also take a tour to a certain museum dedicated to all things Gundam.

That certain museum is Gundam Front Tokyo, and one of its main attractions is DOME-G, a 16 meter dome-shaped theater with six projectors and 13 speakers. It’s kind of like a planetarium and it not only shows you the vastness of outer space but it also shows you some great mobile suit action.

Today, August 3, marks the reveal of the latest Gundam Unicorn, the Gundam Unicorn Unit 3 Fenix. “Fenix” is designed by none other than Hajime Katoki who also designed the first two Unicorns as well as the Gundams from Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz.

Fans were treated with an array of CG imagery and a whole lot of awesome mobile suits. While the original showed a pink psycho-frame (which later became green) and the Banshee possessed a gold-colored pycho-frame, The Fenix possesses a darker, bluish one. It was showed fighting alongside the secong Unicorn unit, the Banshee.

Dome-G however did not just show the new Unicorn but also showcased some of the other Mobile Suits from the other series like Char’s Zaku II and his Sazabi to Amuro’s RX-78-2 Gundam (of course) and his Nu Gundam.

The show also featured some dazzling imagery from other Gundam timelines like this shot coming from the Cosmic Era (Gundam SEED universe).

The event also featured the release of the Gundam Front Tokyo exclusive HGUC 1/144 Unicorn Gundam Unit 3 Fenix (Destroy Mode) Ver.GFT.

Odaiba also played host to another Gundam event, which was the unveiling of the Gundam Marble Statue on July 30. The 1.5 meter statue is made of the finest Italian marble and hand-sculpted by the Fine Arts department faculty of the Tokyo University of the Arts.

Entitled “Reimei White Dawn”, the statue is placed very near the 1/1 scale Gundam to celebrate the start of the Tokyo Gundam Project 2013 Summer Festa.

The statue will stay in Odaiba alongside the 1/1 Gundam until August 22, and then from there, it will go on tour all over Japan.
