"New Atelier Rorona" remake coming to PS3 & PS Vita in November

new atelier rorona 01JRPG developer Gust is working on a PS3 and PS Vita remake of Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland, the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation magazine has revealed.

The title was the first game in the well-loved ”The Alchemist of Arland” series of titles, partially due to the fact that renowned illustrator Mel Kishida worked on character designs for the entire series.

The second and third games, Atelier Totoro and Atelier Rorona, have already received enhanced ports (Atelier Totoro Plus and Atelier Rorona Plus) on the PS Vita.

Since the game mechanics and character models in Atelier Rorona are quite a bit more dated than the Totoro and Rorona games, Gust has decided to do a remake altogether, and release it both on the PS3 and PS Vita.

The games will support the PS3 and Vita’s cross-save feature, allowing gamers who own both versions to transfer their save file back and forth.

New Atelier Rorona will feature brand new character models redone from scratch and said to be closely adhering to the original character illustrations. Mel Kishida himself will be supervising the character modelings for the remake.

In terms of story and event scenes, New Atelier Rorona will be quite a bit longer than the original — the in-game timeline has been expanded by about a year, with brand new events added to tell the story beyond what fans played in the original Atelier Rorona.

There will be new battle and story characters – perhaps a few familiar faces to fans who’ve played the later games, or so Dengeki PlayStation hints.

Mechanics-wise, the gameplay systems here are largely based on those from Atelier Meruru Plus, so fans can expect things like a costume change system, and death blow animations.

Other new features include a vegetable farming minigame, and a “Time Capsule” that allows Rorona to seal away items for a period of time to make them better or stronger.

Dengeki PlayStation also hints that one of the costumes you can have Rorona change into is not so much a costume, but a character entirely. That character (any guesses?).

New Atelier Rorona is slated for a November 2013 release. Gamers who purchase a first-print edition will receive a swimsuit costume DLC for free.

There will also be limited edition PS3 and PS Vita packages.

The PS3 LE comes with a crystal paperweight, and a skin for your Dual Shock 3 controller, while the PS Vita version will instead come with a mini crystal paperweight (so that you may carry it with you everywhere) and a skin for your Vita.
