Sword Art Online anime to get "Extra Edition" end-of-year TV special

A-1 Pictures’s TV anime adaptation of light novel author Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online sci-fi franchise has been so popular, and so immensely successful that Japan’s TV stations have decided to give the show its own end-of-year TV special.

The SAO TV special is entitled Sword Art Online: Extra Edition. Details on what this programme actually is are scarce at the moment – they are slated to be unveiled in the near future at the anime’s official website, according to the magazine scan you see below.

Hopefully this will actually be an extra episode of the anime series.

But it could just as easily be a documentary summarising what the Sword Art Online TV anime is about, and charting the series’s immense popularity and influence.

In other related news, the Sword Art Online franchise will also be featured in a cross-over collaboration with Nexon’s Mabinogi MMORPG, allowing players to equip items, weapons and character costumes as seen in the anime series. The flight wings from Alfheim Online will also be useable.
