In the past, Japanese government certainly hasn’t been shy about using anime and manga to promote tourism to the country.
And with anime tourism currently on the rise in Japan, the land of the rising sun is now also inviting students from the Philippines who are interested in anime, manga and cosplay to come to the nation for a cultural exchange program.
According to a press release by the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC), 23 selected Filipino students from technical institutes, colleges, and universities, aged 18-30 years old, will be invited to attend a 10-day exchange program in Japan from March 21-30, 2014 as part of their “on-going campaign to support and sustain cross-cultural engagement among the youth” which is the JENESYS 2.0 program.
In fact, the sub-theme of the program is anime, manga and cosplay. Participants must have a strong interest in anime, manga and cosplay and are even encouraged to submit their portfolio. According to the JICC press release, students will:
…Tour corporations and join cultural experiences, as well as visit local government offices and schools, to witness the dual values of modernity and tradition that Japan espouses.
One of the 10-day trips highlight will be a trip to Anime Japan 2014 which will be held from March 22-23, 2014 at the world-famous Tokyo Big Sight. It is considered one of the largest anime festivals in the world.
Interested applicants must be bona fide Filipino citizens in good health and presently enrolled in a technical institute, college or university. Former Jenesys participants are no longer qualified to apply.
The application form and the guidelines can be downloaded via the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) website, http://www.ncca.gov.ph/about-ncca/announcements/announcement.php?i=6095
Entries must be submitted to jenesys2014@gmail.com and must be submitted before 6:00 pm (18:00) January 31, 2014.
