The Gundam franchise has been known for its various spin-offs and side stories like Gundam SEED Astray, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, Mobile Suit Gundam Crossbone Skullheart, Mobile Suit Gundam Sentinel, Hathaway’s Flash, and many many more. Now, they are finally getting their time in the sun as a new exhibit dedicated to all the spin-offs was recently opened.
The exhibition was to promote the upcoming action game, Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link as well as the hit ongoing manga, Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt.
A timeline was exhibited to show people the exact chronology of when the events happened, how they happened, who were involved and where they happened. It included several Gundam spin-off series from the Universal Century including Gundam MSV and Gundam Thunderbolt.
The Gundam Thunderbolt corner displayed some of the manga’s beautiful artwork as well as some of the PlaMo which were released from the series. If there was one thing to describe the mobile suits in this series, it would be weapon-overkill.
Other spin-offs like Gundam Sentinel, Mobile Suit Variations (MSV), Advance of Z and the Gundam Seed Astray series were also represented.
The popular video game series, Blue Destiny also showed off their various games, merchandise, figures and GunPla
But the showpiece of the exhibition was clearly the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link game for the PlayStation 3. The game displayed its various merchandise which included some GunPla and the game’s limited edition box. The game is scheduled for release May 29, 2014 in Japan.
Even though it is not considered as a side story, Gundam SEED Destiny was also on display to promote the series’ HD remaster. Present is a 1/10 scale model of Kira Yamato’s Strike Freedom Gundam.
Various GunPla from these Side-Story series were also sold and they vary from the smaller and cheaper HG’s to the 1/100 scale MG’s.
The special exhibition will be on display until 17, 2014 at the Gundam Front Tokyo in Diver City Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba, Tokyo near the 1:1 scale RX-78-2 Gundam.
