Hideaki Kobayashi, also known as the “Sailor Suit Old Man”, has become quite the internet sensation as he has been featured in twitter and in various Japanese websites for walking around the streets of Tokyo while wearing a sailor-style school uniform.
He may seem strange to many people, but Kobayashi is actually an accomplished engineer and teacher who works for the Waseda Juku cram school as a member of the faculty of its Science and Technology department. Because of his seemingly strange hobbies, he has admitted that his students often ask him why he walks around Tokyo in a sailor-style school uniform. He has also shown that he is very proficient in speaking English.
Now, the cram school that they will be holding a special open class for parents and teenagers interested in applying to the school and guess who will be the one lecturing?
This “Rich & Happy” lecture will be featuring the “Sailor Suit Old Man”, Hideaki Kobayashi himself on July 13, 2014 at the Waseda Juku Cram School. Yes, this old man is pretty serious when it comes to studying as he is known to stress the value of studying hard and having a good job outlook to teenagers. The cram school has even released a few videos of him lecturing. In one of the videos, he speaks in fluent English and says
I will do my best to help you have a happy life
…before doing a very kawaii pose. awwwwwwwwwww… Looks like he is even better at speaking English than some native speakers.
The cram school has also featured him in another promotional video, however, he ain’t lecturing as he wrestles his “rival”, the gaijin new comer, Lady Beard. That wrestling video has now over 320,000 views and counting.
So if you are ever in Japan this July 14, feel free to stop by the Waseda Juku open lecture and you may learn a few things from the “Sailor Suit Old Man”, though walking around your hometown in a sailor outfit may or may not be one of them.
