The SGCafe New Year Special: We just can"t wait to watch these 8 anime movies in 2015

2015 is already shaping up to be an excellent year for TV anime, with titles like Gintama, Assassination Classroom, Kantai Collection, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, and Shokugeki no Souma already confirmed to air. And while TV anime seem to be the bulk of discussions in many anime circles, the Japanese animated movies also deserve to be recognized, and for today’s SGCafe New Year Special, we take a look at eight anime movies we just cannot wait to see.

We ranked the anime movies which will have theatrical releases in Japanese cinemas, so no TV series here. These are our picks:

Psycho-Pass the Movie

Set four years after the events of the first season, this movie will mark the return of former inspector/ enforcer, Shinya Kougami, after his “disappearance” at the end of the first season. The anime movie will be the first to premiere in our list, as it is scheduled to show starting January 9, 2015 in Japan.

After trying out the Sibyl System, the SEAUn (the South East Asia Union) has finally experienced peace after years of civil war, however, several terrorists from the country have infiltrated Tokyo to attack the Sibyl System, and it is up to Akane and her team to stop them.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie (title still tentative)

After the ending of Masashi Kishimoto’s beloved manga, Naruto, Boruto: Naruto the Movie, will be coming into its scheduled August 2014 premiere with a lot of anticipation as it will not only be focusing on Naruto and Hinata’s son, Boruto (yes folks, it’s official, he’s not Bolt), but also Sasuke and Sakura’s daughter, Sarada (or Salada). Prepare for some Burrito-Salad shipping with this one…

Love Live! the Movie (title still tentative)

Slated to premiere this Early Summer 2015, this movie is sure to come with a whole lot of hype, not only in Japan, but worldwide. The movie will still follow the nine school idol members of μ’s, who have seemingly disbanded by the end of the second season. More details about the movie will be announced in days to come. It’s Love Live!, should we even have a reason not to be excited?!

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin I: Blue-eyed Casval

chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar

Have you ever wondered what the “Red Comet”, Char Aznable, was like when he was a kid? Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin I: Blue-eyed Casval chronicles the fall and rise of the child soon to be known as Char Aznable, from the assassination of his father to their adoption by Jimba Ral, to his transformation into the deadly ace pilot they called The Red Comet.

The movie will be shown in selected theaters across Japan starting February 28, 2015. The Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin series was first announced during the Gundam 35th anniversary press conference.

Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F

fukkatsu no F

In the world of Dragon Ball, people don’t always stay dead, and when the villain Frieza is resurrected using the Dragon Balls, the universe is in trouble… Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trouble. The word Fukatsu means resurrection in Japanese, and according to Dragon Ball manga creator Akira Toriyama, the “F” in the movie actually stands for Frieza, so expect a lot of action with this new movie.

Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F will be released in both 2D and 3D in Japanese cinemas starting April 18, 2015.

Beyond the Boundary: I’ll be Here (Part I and Part II)

Kyoto Animation’s 2-part movie will start things of on March 14 with Beyond the Boundary: I’ll be Here: Kako-hen, which will be a recap of the Beyond the Boundary anime series, and it will be followed up with a new story with Beyond the Boundary: I’ll be Here: Mirai-hen, which will take place one year after the events of the TV series. Mirai-hen will premiere on April 25, 2015. Now let’s say it together, Fuyukai-desu!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC (Part I and Part II)

8593089f

Like Beyond the Boundary, the new Arpeggio movie will be divided in two parts, with the first movie being a compilation movie of the anime with new story sequences while the second will be a whole new story not found in the anime. The first movie is slated to air on January 31, 2015 while the second one is slated sometime later in the year. Expect plenty of awesome CGI ship battles as well as a couple of shippings between ships… and yes, we are not kidding on that last part.

Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0

Evangelion-3.0+1.0-730x465

The fourth and final Evangelion movie may sound more like a math equation, however, that absolutely does not stop all the excitement as we finally get to see what sort of bad things might happen to Shinji, Asuka, Mari, and the rest of the Eva gang.

A Japanese weekly entertainment magazine has somehow leaked that the movie is scheduled for release between Fall and Winter 2015, and would feature a song by J-pop icon Utada Hikaru as its theme song.

So there you have it folks, our picks for the 2015 anime movies we are most excited about. Check out our other New Year special picks though this link
