What anime songs do people sing in karaokes? MyNavi Woman weighs in

Karaokes often set us loose from our usual selves as we sing our favorite songs. In Japan, karaokes often feature anime songs, and Japanese women’s website, MyNavi Woman, has asked Karaoke goers if there are any anisongs they would just like to sing their hearts out in Karaokes.

Sadly, of the 636 respondents to the online poll, only 14.5% of them (about 92 people) have said that they have an anisong they must always sing whenever in the karaoke. Those who said “Yes” to the poll however did say which anisongs they liked. Here are their Top 5:

5/6) Genesis of Aquarion by Akino (from Genesis of Aquarion)

5/6) Orion o Nazoru by Unison Square (from Tiger & Bunny)

4) Shangri-La by Angela (from Fafner in the Azure)

3) Butter-fly by Kouji Wada (from Digimon Adventure 01)

2) Touch by Yoshimi Iwasaki (from Touch)

1) Cruel Angel’s Thesis by Yoko Takahashi (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Unsurprisingly, Cruel Angel’s Thesis wins this poll and proves it is still one of the most loved anisongs in history. The classic song by Yoko Takahashi is consistently topped the annual Joysound Karaoke Rankings, however, last year, it seems that it only played second fiddle to one particular song from Disney’s Frozen.

Classic anime Touch meanwhile makes one very big upset as it takes second place and beating Kouji Wada’s beloved Digimon OP song, Butter-fly.

Since this poll was done by a women’s website, it is also unsurprising some of the usual anisongs from more male-oriented anime like Only My Railgun did not make the list. So which anime songs will you sing in a karaoke?
