The Kantai Collection anime may have already ended, however, the original PC browser game is still going strong and will even be having a new event later this month. The game features hundreds of Japanese (and some German) ships, but which one of them is the most popular?
Japanese ranking website, Goo, has asked 500 people, 250 male, and 250 female, to weigh in on their favorite KanColle fleet girl. Since KanColle has a lot of ships, the website narrowed it down to the Top 20, and they are:
20, 19 tie) Torpedo Cruiser Kitakami and Light Cruiser Ooyodo
18) Destroyer Yuudachi
17, 16 tie) Torpedo Cruiser Ooi and Destroyer Inazuma
15, 14, 13, 12, 11 tie) Battleship Mutsu, Aircraft Carrier Zuikaku, Light Cruiser Jintsuu, Destroyer Akatsuki and Destroyer Mutsuki
10, 9, 8 tie) Battleship Yamato
10, 9, 8 tie) Destroyer Hibiki
10, 9, 8 tie) Heavy Cruiser Atago
7) Destroyer Ikazuchi
6) Aircraft Carrier Kaga
5) Battleship Kongou
4) Battleship Hiei
3) Destroyer Shimakaze
2) Aircraft Carrier Akagi
1) Destroyer Fubuki
What an upset! Fubuki, who is known for being KanColle’s resident “Plain Jane”, has upset her more well-known comrades like Akagi, Yamato and Kongou. Maybe the anime has something to do with good’ol Bucky’s win? Who knows? Maybe her charm just went waaaaaaay up for many fans.
Getting beaten to the top spot by her fangirl kouhai is Akagi, the ace of the dreaded Kidou Butai, or the “Mobile Force”. The beloved glutton known for guzzling down fuel, ammo, and bauxite, has also gotten a huge surge in popularity thanks to the anime. #3 meanwhile went to Shimakaze, who has been the franchise’s most recognizable fleet girl since the game was launched back in 2013
Also considered an upset would be Hiei beating her sister, Kongou. Kongou, who definitely had more screen time than all of her sisters in the anime, only got #5 while her “ready to go” sister gets fourth place. Maybe it’s the fact that many fans find Kongou to be too annoying. Also surprising is that Yuudachi, best known for her verbal tic, Poi, is only at 18th place
It’s also worth noting that all of the fleet girls who made it to the Top 20 were all featured in the anime, which would really make you wonder if the adaptation really played a huge part in the decision of many of the poll’s respondents. Makes you wonder where are the others like Ushio, Sazanami, Ryuujou, Junyou, and others are, right?
