Hatsune Miku gets her own transforming robot [Video]

With Good Smile Company and Team Ukyo’s Good Smile Racing already well into their Super GT campaign, they have recently released a new promo video, and it features their lovable mascot, Racing Miku 2014 and Good Smile Racing’s BMW z4 GT3 which later transforms into a giant robot.

The Racing Miku transformer was tentatively named the Miku Motoroid and is designed by Macross mecha designer Shoji Kawamori. It aimed to incorporate both the design of Good Smile Racing’s BMW z4 GT3 and Hatsune Miku into the robot itself thus having both a “transformer” kind of feel complete with a spoiler, the car’s headlights, trunk, wheels, and more as well as sporting a more feminine design as compared to most mechas and of course, Miku’s signature twin tails. It’s gotta have twin tails, right?

Racing Miku 2014, who appears alongside the Good Smile Racing robot is meanwhile designed by Kantai Collection character designer Oguchi with supervision by Eureka Seven and Rebuild of Evangelion designer Shigeto Koyama. She was revealed alongside the Miku Motoroid during Good Smile Racing’s pep rally which was held during the Winter Wonder Festival 2014 last February.

Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Maou Ruby Eyes [Figure Review]

From the popular Maoyu Maou Yuusha comes one of the latest figures from Kotobukiya, the lovely and intelligent Maou, or demon king.

SAM 0833 500x375 Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Maou Ruby Eyes [Figure Review]

Box

The box is fairly large, measuring about 32cm in height and 22cm in width. It reflects the anime’s beautiful medieval tapestry-like art style with its vivid coloration. You can view the Maou figure pretty easily and a thin window at the box’s right side offers you a peek at her sides.

Figure

The figure’s height is average when it comes to 1/8 scale figures as it measures in at a bit over 24cm. Her height aside, the figure itself is quite wide due to her large fluttering skit.

Maou considers herself “fat” and full of “useless meat”. Well, let’s just say that Kotobukiya did the opposite of her description of herself and all her “useless meat” went somewhere else in the figure.

SAM 0850 500x375 Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Maou Ruby Eyes [Figure Review]

Sculptor Masato Abe did Maou some justice by staying true to her proportions. The figure is also quite sturdy though the ribbon near her belly is quite fragile so be careful.

SAM 0898 500x375 Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Maou Ruby Eyes [Figure Review]

The details in her dress are simply beautiful. In some angles, her fluttering skirt can leave a lot to the imagination. The ruffles in her skirt are well detailed, so much so that they really do seem like they are fluttering in the air as Maou spins around.

Her arms are decorated with fine jewelry and is also quite detailed.

Maou also goes by the name “Crimson Scholar” and this figure’s colors truly give her some justice. The painting was quite well done and this figure truly goes by Kotobukiya’s quality high standards.

Her horns are also removable to make this demon blend in with the humans. At first I thought the horns were just a headband just like what she wore in the anime but I was definitely wrong. Taking the horns off needed a bit of disassemble and reassembly as some “hornless” hair parts were also included.

But if you ask me, I prefer those horns on.

Her base is beautifully crafted with so many fine details on the stone and grass. It is also quite small compared to most figure bases. I like its smaller size since it allows me to have more room space for my other collection.

SAM 0915 500x375 Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Maou Ruby Eyes [Figure Review] SAM 0836 500x375 Kotobukiya 1/8th scale Maou Ruby Eyes [Figure Review]

Kotobukiya is known for quality sculptures and painting and this figure is definitely Kotobukiya material through and through from the box’s beautiful artwork to the beautiful base and the Maou figure itself, this demon king is certainly a great figure. I give it a 9/10.
