Who is the WORST GIRL in Shounen Jump? Fans vote for the magazine"s "Worst Heroine"

Weekly Shounen Jump! magazine is one of Japan’s most well known manga magazines, as it has introduced us to many legendary anime titles like Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and even Nisekoi and To Love-Ru. The series has also introduced plenty of heroines, though it is clear that many of them aren’t that popular, and even hated.

In a new poll done by ranking website, Goo, they asked 500 people (250 male and 250 female) to vote for the Shounen Jump! heroine that they think is the worst. Fans were allowed to vote multiple times, and here is the Top 20:

20 – Aika Hiiragi (Mx0)

19 – Kaoru Kamiya (Rurouni Kenshin)

18 – Lala Deviluke (To Love-Ru)

17 – Dakki (Hoshin Engi)

16, 15, 14, 13 (4-way tie) – Miho Akizuki (Bakuman), Himeko Onizuka (Sket Dance), Nami (One Piece), and Sakurako Amamiya (Psyren)

12 – Chika Amatori (World Trigger)

11 – Tsukasa Nishino (Strawberry 100%)

10 – Kokomi Teruhashi (Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan)

1 -Ochako Uraraka (My Hero Academia)

screen-shot-2016-05-15-at-7-21-29-am

While a lot of people are still clearly not gotten over the ending of Nisekoi, Ochako manages to take the top spot in Goo’s ranking, beating out Chitoge. While both heroines have strong followings themselves, as this poll has shown, many manga readers really don’t like them that much.

Though the same could be said for Erina Nakiri, who has a lot of fans, and even Death Note’s Misa Amane, who through the years has gotten a lot of haters despite also having a strong fanbase, however, #5 is surprising as Kagura is named to the list. As for Sakura, we’re not surprised at all…

So, who is your most hated Shounen Jump heroine? You can also check out the heroines who got ranked lower, at #21 – 48, here: http://ranking.goo.ne.jp/ranking/category/999/8_626wPPNcnf/p5/

Which anime school uniform do anime fans want to wear the most? Charapedia ranks the Top 20

Anime school uniforms are a staple during cosplay events, but sometimes, it makes one wonder how it would feel actually wearing one for everyday use, like actual students of that school from the anime.

For this week’s Charapedia poll, of the 10,000 anime fans who voted, an overwhelming 82.5% of voters were actually female, while only 17.5% were male. This is because the focus of the poll were anime school uniforms, and from the looks of things, a lot of women really want to wear the uniforms of certain schools in anime. Here are the Top 20:

20 – Fukuroudani High School (Haikyuu!!)

19 – Hope’s Peak Academy (Danganronpa)

18 – Sakuragaoka Girls’ High School (K-On!)

17 – Uranohoshi Girls’ High School (Love Live! Sunshine!!)

16 – Tokiwadai Middle School (A Certain series)

15 – Mitakihara Middle School (Madoka Magica)

14 – Roman Academy (Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun)

2 – Teikou Middle School (Kuroko’s Basketball)

Akashi_and_Midorima

1 – Otonokizaka High School (Love Live!)

Love_Live!_μ

And the school uniform that fans want to wear the mosty is the uniform of Otonokizaka High School, and we are absolutely not surprised at all. Love Live! actually has a huge female fanbase, and with more than 80% of the voters being female, it’s no wonder why many actually want to wear their uniform.

And with more than 80% of the voters being female, it’s not surprising that we see a lot of sports anime in the Top 20, particularly the schools featured in Kuroko’s Basketball, Haikyuu!!, and Free!.

As for those anime that are a bit more male-oriented (that’s not Love Live!), The Irregular at Magic High School scores big and takes 5th place because those uniforms are just damn cool to look at.

Other photos from the live-action Ghost in the Shell set in Hong Kong have also surfaced previously:

Ghost in the Shell original director and writer, Mamoru Oshii, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex director and writer, Kenji Kamiya, and Ghost in the Shell musical composer, Kenji Kawai,  previously visited the set and posed with the film’s stars, including Scarlett Johansson herself.

The apparent “White Washing” of the roles have drawn much controversy, however, Kodansha executives back in Japan “White Washing” the role never expected an Asian or Japanese actress to play the role of Motoko Kusanagi, who is considered one of the most iconic Japanese anime characters in history. In fact, the Japanese netizens really did not care much about the role going to a non-Japanese.

Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders is at the helm of the project as director, and DreamWorks Pictures producing the movie. DreamWorks executive and legendary director, Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, E.T., Indiana Jones) is a huge fan of the original anime movie and has wanted this project to be realized for a long time now, and with the filming of the classic manga already started, Spielberg is finally getting what he wants.

So what do you think of Scarlett Johansson possibly playing Motoko Kusanagi? Will this go the “Edge of Tomorrow” route and be a huge success, or will this go the “Dragon Ball Evolution” route and fail miserably? Only time will tell so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

They’re back, and it really does seem that we are getting a taste of even more farming life this August, as Issue #39 of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine has revealed that legendary mangaka, Hiromu Arakawa (Full Metal Alchemist, The Heroic Legend of Arslan) is ready to resume her farming manga, Silver Spoon.

According to the announcement, Silver Spoon will be returning on 31st August on  Weekly Shounen Sunday’s 40th issue. The manga will also be featured in the cover, and those who purchase it will get a replica of the cover’s art as a present.

The manga will be returning from a hiatus which will last for eight months, and started last February. before this, Arakawa went on a 6-month hiatus before returning in January, and later going back on hiatus. The reason for her hiatuses have been the health of a family member, who she has been taking care of.

[MEME] Japanese Table Tennis Olympian inspires new anime meme

The Rio 2016 Olympic games are now officially over, and with Japan scrambling to host the next one, the country is bracing itself for Tokyo 2020. However, with the Olympics comes a new anime meme, compliments of a Japanese Table Tennis Olympian named Jun Mizutani.

Mizutani has actually brought hoor for Japan by winning the country’s first medal in Table Tennis, however, that did not stop the magical place known as the internet in making fun of his weirdly-timed poses. With the hashtag, , #アニメの画像をアップすると近い構図の水谷隼の画像が送られてくる, which means to “upload an image of Mizutani with an ANIME character in a similar position”, the Japanese social media users had a little fun of the world-class athlete’s weird poses.

Oh internet, you truly are a magical place, aren’t you? While the main focus of the meme was comparing Mizutani’s poses with anime characters, several video game characters also made an appearance. Oh, and Spongebob Squarepants counts as an anime so that explains why Patrick is there (really, Spongebob Squarepants is counted as an anime back in Japan).
