During a recent Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet event which took place last April 3, 2015, Bandai Visual producer Yuuji Hirooka became the bearer of bad news as he announced that Production I.G.’s popular mecha anime, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (Suisei no Gargantia), will not be having its already-announced second season anymore.
A sequel anime for the series has already been planned, however, as Hirroka has announced, it has already been scrapped because the Production I.G. staff cannot continue producing the sequel anime due to “various circumstances”. Instead, the story of Ledo will be ending with a new novel as well as a final OVA. The novel will act as the final piece to Ledo’s adventures in Earth and will finally close the book on the series. Daishiro Tanimura, who wrote the scripts for the anime and its OVAs, will be the book’s author. It is scheduled for release on summer 2015.
As for the OVA, it was be split into two parts with its first part screened in 10 selected Japanese theaters last September 27, 2014. The first people to attend the screenings for the second and final part of the OVAs will be getting their hands on the sequel novel’s prologue short story.
