In This Corner of the World beats your name. to win Best Animation for Japan Academy Prize

The 40th annual Japan Academy Prizes was held at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo last night. It’s considered the Japanese equivalent of the Academy Awards and is considered by many as Japan’s most prestigious film award. And with the results announced, In this Corner of the World wins Best Animation.

In this Corner of the World faced some stiff competition, facing off against your name., A Silent Voice, Rudolph to Ippaiattena, and One Piece Film Gold. While your name didn’t win Best Animation, it did Screenplay of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Music for RADWIMPS, and the All Night Nippon Wadai-Shou prize, which was voted on by fans. The film has been on a losing streak as of late, as not only did it win the Anime of the Year, losing to A Silent Voice in the movie category, it was also snubbed by the Academy Awards itself.

Previous winners of the Best Animation award included Summer Wars, Ponyo, The Boy and the Beast, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and The Wind Rises.
