Best known for singing Neon Genesis Evangelion‘s iconic OP, Cruel Angel’s Thesis, singer Yoko Takahashi has not done any anime songs for 8 years now, however, after her long Anisong hiatus, she is finally back to sing the OP for another mecha anime, which is the controversial Cross Ange.
The last anime song she performed was the OP song for Pumpkin Scissors, titled Aoki Flamme, which was released back in October 2006. She also sang the theme songs for other anime like Shakugan no Shana and Ah! My Goddess!, but her most iconic anime song will always be Eva’s Cruel Angel’s Thesis back in 1995.
She will be singing Cross Ange’s 2nd OP titled “Truth of the Apocalypse” while Nana Mizuki, who previously sang the anime’s 1st OP and voices the main character, Ange, will be singing the 2nd ED song titled “End of the Love Song.
Cross Ange has been one very controversial anime, mainly because its OP has been dubbed the “Copy-Paste OP”. This is because it really resembles the Gundam SEED OPs. The anime also featured plenty of shout-outs to other mecha anime in one of its scenes, Gundam SEED included.
