The city of Nishinomiya in Hyougo Prefecture has become the “Holy Land” for fans of the classic anime series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Now, the Hyougo-based orchestral group, NON Orchestra, has announced that they will be playing the songs featured in the anime in the Haruhi’s own home turf of Nishinomiya and admission to that concert will be free.
The NON Orchestra will be playing songs like the series very first OP song, Bouken Desho Desho? (originally performed by Haruhi’s voice actress, Aya Hirano), The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina, and God Knows. Those songs truly bring back memories huh?
The NON Orchestra’s “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” concert will be on July 5, 2014 at the Shukugawa Municipal Community Center Auditorium in Nishinomiya. As mentioned earlier, admission for the concert will be free, but fans who want to hear the concert have to come early because once the auditorium reaches full capacity, the organizers will already start refusing admission.
The City of Nishinomiya and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya series have had quite a relationship with some of the cities landmarks being featured in the anime, including the recently restored clock tower which fans successfully lobbied to save. The Nishinomiya Kita High School served as the basis for SOS Brigade’s school, North High while the Kabutoyama Forest Park served as the SOS Brigade’s filming spot for The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina.
