5 Winter 2015 anime you should also watch

Winter 2015 has been packed with some anime titles which have so far proven that their hype is all too real, like Kantai Collection, iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls, and Assassination Classroom. There are also several returning anime and continuing anime which actually need no introduction like Aldnoah.Zero and Kuroko’s Basketball. However, there are also several titles which some more mainstream fans haven’t heard of that also need some bit of love.

We have taken a look at five anime titles which we are sure others might also like, and we did not have to argue a lot as compared to our other SGCafe originals. Here are five Winter 2015 anime that people should also watch (that is not Aldnoah.Zero, Kuroko’s Basketball, Durarara!! X2, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Assassination Classroom, KanColle, or Cinderella Girls):

Gourmet Girl Graffiti

koufuku

As fans are getting hyped up for the food anime known as Food Wars: Shokugeki no Souma, Gourmet Girl Graffiti serves as an excellent appetizer of sorts for all the heated kitchen battles and food porn. Unlike the heated battles of Shokugeni no Souma, Gourmet Girl Graffiti is more of a laid-back slice of life anime about a girl who really loves cooking. Shaft, which animates the series has so far done a good job of making people hungry in this one, and the story and characters are just as refreshing and relaxing.

The Testament of Sister New Devil

The Testament of Sister New Devil 02

A cross between High School DXD and Maoyu: Maou Yuusha, ecchi anime, The Testament of Sister New Devil, may come with plenty of the usual ecchi anime gags and cliches, but it does deliver on the action and suspense so far. The anime about an “average guy” suddenly getting himself two little sisters (who turn out to be demons with the eldest of the two actually being a candidate for Maou) has surprisingly become quite popular in Japan.

Rolling Girls

This unique original anime by Wit Studio (Attack on Titan) feels a bit like Kill la Kill with its over-the-top fight scenes and characters who seem to defy the very laws of physics. Set in a world where Japan has been divided into many factions and the Existence of superpowered individuals known as “The Best” have tipped the balance of power, expect plenty of laughs, gags, and adventure in this anime.

Death Parade

Unlike our other picks in this list, Death Parade is not for the weak of heart. Set in a bar where the dead play a game to decide whether they become reincarnated or their souls sent to the void, the series has so far been entertaining, with a rather unique look at human relationships through the eyes of the bartender, Decim, who decides which souls go where after they die.

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

While most light novel-based harem anime have the flashiest and most popular girl act as the main girl, Saekano’s actual female lead is often considered a mob character or even an extra of sorts, in fact, you would never know that she really is the main girl until you watch the anime’s second episode (which is episode 1, because it starts with episode 0). In fact, if you look at its visual above you won’t even know that the main girl is really this girl right here

saekano1

True to its title, Saekano really does have the most plain main girl in anime so far, and the three other girls in the “harem” are a lot more flashier and stand out a lot more, but that is what makes this anime so refreshing is that even though the other girls fit the usual harem anime tropes like the childhood friend, the half-foreign-blonde-twin-tailed tsundere, and the smart and busty sempai, its the unusual banter added by the unassuming female lead and the otaku male lead that makes this one an interesting watch.

So there you have it, our picks on the anime you should also be watching this winter. Which series do you guys think should others also watch (that is not Aldnoah.Zero, Kuroko’s Basketball, Durarara!! X2, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Assassination Classroom, KanColle, or Cinderella Girls)?
