Death Note is getting a live-action TV drama which will premiere this July 2015, and they have now released the big costume reveal for three of the show’s main characters, L, Light Yagami, and Near.
Masataka Kubota, who appeared in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movies as Akira, will play the maon protagonist, Light Yagami while his rival, L, will be played by Kento Yamazaki, who played Koichi in the live-action adaptation of Another. Finally, Mio Yuuki, who appeared in the live-action Assassination Classroom as Yukiko, will be playing as Near, one of L’s two apprentices who will be making his first live-action appearance as the previous live-action movies and the stage musical did not include him.
This new live-action TV series will be based on the thriller manga by the renowned manga duo of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, who are also responsible for Bakuman. It will feature an entirely new story which is not previously found in the TV anime, the live-action movies, or the stage musical.
More announcements for this new live-action Death Note TV show, such as the costume reveals for the other cast members, will be announced in the days to come.
