The SGCafe List: Our Favorite moments from the BLEACH manga

Much like Nisekoi, Bleach is also ending this month, ending a historic 15-year run. With all of its ups and downs, Tite Kubo’s supernatural shounen manga has proven to be one of the greatest, and to celebrate Bleach, we take a look at seven of our favorite moments from the manga!

As usual, before you proceed, we will be issuing a SPOILER WARNING, especially for all of you who have stopped reading when Aizen was defeated… or have just started reading or watching the manga. And without further ado, here are our seven picks:

Zaraki Kenpachi vs. Nnoitra Gilga

201Kenpachi_vs._Nnoitra

In a battle between two of the most battle-crazy characters of the series, only one had to give, with Kenpachi managing to get a hard-fought victory. These two loved to fight, and the battle lived up to its hype and actually went down as one of the most intense battles in the manga’s history.

Ichigo’s father is revealed to be a Shinigami

GrandFisherArrancar

Throughout much of the manga’s early chapters, Ichigo’s father, Isshin Kurosaki, has been portrayed as a simple doctor who dotes on his daughters, loves his son, and really (and I mean really) loves his late wife. When the Arrancar arc came along, the hollow who killed Ichigo’s mother and Isshin’s wife made its return, but this time as an Arrancar. The hollow is known as the Grand Fisher, and it chases around Kon who is in Ichigo’s body. He is then rescued by Ichigo’s father, who reveals that he is not your average doctor after all, and is in fact a Shinigami himself! Fans’ minds were blown.

Ichigo Kurosaki vs. Ulquiorra Cifer (Final Battle)

271Ichigo_vs._Ulquiorra

In a battle between two monsters, both Ichigo and Ulquiorra blew audiences away with their much-hyped final confrontation, with the latter showing off his final form, but in the end, it wasn’t enough, as Ichigo dug deep into his own personal darkness to grab victory.

Ichigo goes into Bankai form for the first time

This one is from the Soul Society arc, where Rukia was captured and Ichigo and friends have to face-off against the Shinigami. In order to face-off against Rukia’s brother, Byakuya, Ichigo had to face off against his dark side or inner hollow, and after successfully doing so, he managed to gain access to his first Bankai form, Tensa Zangetsu, which grants him increases speed and maneuverability.

Shinigami arrive in Karakura High

To help bolster Karakura town’s defenses against the incoming Arrancar threat, Soul Society sent Yumichika, Rangiku Matsumoto, Renji Abarai, and Rukia Kuchiki, Ikkaku Madarame, and Toushirou Hitsugaya to pose as Karakura High students. While their arrival has an all-too-serious reason, that didn’t stop the new arrivals from a few hilarious moments. In other words, five powerful Shinigami arrive to pose as high school students, hilarity ensues.

Kenpachi’s Bankai is revealed

669Kenpachi

It was one of Bleach’s biggest mysteries, and it was finally revealed in the manga’s final arc when facing off against invading Quincy forces, in particular, the giant known as Gerard Valkyrie. As expected, fans cheered when Kenpachi finally released his Bankai, which is revealed to be none other than his lieutenant herself, Yachiru Kusajishi. The Bankai is very powerful, though it takes its toll on Kenpachi’s body, but nothing this bloodthirsty Shinigami can’t handle, right?

Sousuke Aizen is defeated

Without a doubt, Aizen Sousuke is Bleach’s greatest villain, masterminding the events of the Soul Society arc and Arrancar arc. He fell to the combined Visored and Shinigami forces during the Fake Karakura Town arc, and he lived up to his “Greatest Villain” role, as it really took a lot to defeat him, weathering attacks from various characters, and was noted for really feeling like the “Final Boss.”

For many, Aizen’s defeat really marked the end of Bleach, as the following arc, the Fullbring Arc, was described as mediocre and was a poor attempt to keep Bleach relevant. With Aizen’s defeat, many felt that Bleach wasn’t like it used to be, which is a huge testament to his character. This even prompted Kubo to bring Aizen back for the Quincy arc!
