New Godzilla anime will be a movie written by Gen Urobuchi

After being directed by Evangelion creator, Hideaki Anno for Godzilla: Resurgence, Godzilla will be returning next year, and this time, with another legendary anime great in writer Gen Urobuchi (Madoka Magica, Psycho-Pass). The infamous “Urobutcher” will be writing the script for a new Godzilla anime movie, which is scheduled to premiere in 2017.

Polygon Pictures, which animated Knights of Sidonia, will be producing the 3DCG animation for the movie, with Knights of Sidonia movie director, Hiroyuki Seshita, and Detective Conan movie director, Kobun Shizuno, both co-directing.

Previously, a Godzilla-anime.com domain name was registered to TOHO, which was the original movie studio which introduced the world to Godzilla back in 1954. So far, Godzilla has appeared in western animation from Hanna-Barbera back in the 70’s before first appearing on Japanese animation in a crossover with Crayon Shin-chan, and no, the 1998 series from HBO technically does not count because that was the creature known as Zilla and not the real Godzilla.

So what do you guys think of Gen writing the new Godzilla anime? Would there be a lot of despair? Would the King of Monsters bite off someone’s head? I guess we will be finding out more details on this in the days ahead, so stay tuned for more.
