2013 is nearly over and e-book store BookWalker has announced their annual book rankings.
Their rankings are divided into several genres like Male-oriented Mangas, Female-oriented Mangas, Light Novels and Novels.
Here are their results (keep in mind that these rankings only count for the purchases made on BookWalker — not every novel is available on BookWalker):
Male Oriented Mangas:
20: Non Non Biyori
19: Freezing
18: Golgo 13
17: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Vivid
16: Watamote
15: Neon Genesis Evangelion
14: Nana Maru San Bantsu
13: Saikin, Imouto No Yousuga Chotto Okashii N Da Ga
12: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn – Bande Dessinee
11: A Certain Magical Index (manga)
10: Yowamushi Pedal
9: Sora no Otoshimono
8: Full metal Alchemist
7: Otoyomegatari
6: Maoyu Maou Yuusha Refuse!
5: Arpeggio of the Blue Steel
4: Fate/ Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya
3: Thermae Romae
2: Attack on Titan
1: A Certain Scientific Railgun
Attack on Titan may be dominating 2013 but it has failed to take the #1 spot from Mikoto Misaka and the rest of the Railgun gang. Looks like anime adaptations have helped several series this year because most of the top 20 male oriented mangas have had their anime adaptations premiere this year like Attack on Titan, Non Non Biyori, Yowamushi Pedal and Arpeggio of the Blue Steel.
Female Oriented Mangas:
5- Card Captor Sakura
4- Nodame Cantibile
3- God Save Our King!
2- Chihayafuru
1- Brothers Conflict
Looks like the anime adaptation has helped Brothers Conflict win the top spot for the female-oriented mangas genre. They beat out constant female fan-favorites Chihayafuru and God Save Our King!
Light Novels
20- Campione!
19- Sky World
18- Omae o Otaku ni Shiteyaru kara, Ore o Riajuu ni Shitekure!
17- Noucome
16- Golden Time
15- Chrome Shelled Regios
14- Haganai
13- Spice & Wolf
12- Tokyo Ravens
11- Unbreakable Machine Doll
10- Oreshura
9- The Pet Girl of Sakurasou
8- Oregairu
7- Strike The Blood
6- High School DXD
5- A Certain Magical Index New Testament
4- Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren’t they?
3- Date-A-Live
2- A Certain Magical Index
1- Hataraku Maou-sama!
2013 seems to be OreImo’s year but the popular light novel series does not even make it to the top 20. Maybe its because of its rather controversial ending? Another LN series which surprisingly did not make it to the top 20? Sword Art Online.
Hataraku Maou-sama! continues to roll this year as it takes the #1 spot beating out constant favorites A Certain Magical Index and Date-A-Live.
Oregairu which has been dominating the paperback editions and anime seems to have only placed at #8.
Novels
5- Library Wars
4- Red Data Girl
3- Universal Appraiser Q
2- Maoyu Maou Yuusha
1- Log Horizon
Looks like 2013 is author Mamare Touno’s year. Not only have his novels experienced success as anime but he also gets both the #1 and the #2 spots for Log Horizon and Maoyu Maou Yuusha. His “Plot and Economics” style has been quite well received by readers and anime fans alike.
