One of the coolest, but perhaps under-utilised, features in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is its Edit Mode, which allows players to import their own MP3 music tracks and create their own PVs and rhythm charts for those songs.
You can even share your Edit Data (PVs and rhythm game charts), and download others’, online from within the game itself. There’s just one catch: to prevent any potential copyright problems, you’re only allowed to upload the Edit Data, but not the song. Which means, if you were to download somebody else’s Edit Data, you’d need to run out and purchase your own copy of the song in order to play that user’s custom creation in Project Diva F.
So only a small fraction of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F users actually utilise the feature.
Sega is hoping to change that with Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd, however.
Today they’ve announced that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd will link up to Crypton Future Media’s Piapro consumer-generated media (CGM) site, allowing players to download user-created songs from the CGM site directly from within the game for use in its Edit Mode.
Not all of the songs available on the Piapro CGM platform will be accessible from Project Diva F 2nd, of course. Only songs that have the expressed permission of the original composer to share on Project Diva F 2nd (as covered in the Piapro license) will be available.
Edit Mode on the PS Vita version will not fit on Project Diva F 2nd game card
Other than the Piapro link-up, Sega also mentioned that gamers on the PS Vita version of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd will need to download a 900MB file from the PlayStation Network in order to make Edit Mode accessible.
The reason, they explained, is because the game is pushing the limits of storage available on the PS Vita game card, and thus Sega will not be able to fit the Edit Mode on the PS Vita game card itself.
That’s good news, right, guys? That the PS Vita version of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd is bordering on the Vita game card storage limits — even without the Edit Mode.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd for the PS3 and PS Vita comes out in Japan and Asia March 6, 2014.
