Oricon has revealed the best-selling singles for the past week, and it seems like it was a good week for music fans, because two anime singles broke into the top 5 and two idol groups broke their own records.
Ranked at number 4 is “Rising Hope”, the fifth single from LiSA and the opening single of the popular anime The Irregular at Magic High School. The single was released on May 7 and sold about 30,000 copies in its first week. While it doesn’t break any records, it is LiSA’s highest ranking single since “Ichiban no Takaramono ~Yui Final Ver.~”, which was ranked number 3 when it was released in 2010.
Also in the spotlight is the ending single of Love Live!’s second season, “Donna Toki mo Zutto”. With 45,000 copies sold in its first week, it ranked number 2 on Oricon’s weekly chart, surpassing LiSA and becoming the highest ranking single yet from μ’s.
In addition, the opening single, “Sore wa Bokutachi no Kiseki”, jumped up to rank 9 three weeks after its release (it ranked number 3 in its first week), making this the first time μ’s’ has ranked twice in the top 10 singles at the same time. We’ve already seen how passionate Love Live! fans can be, and now that the mobile game School Idol Festival is available worldwide, who knows how much their popularity will skyrocket even more.
But for now, Love Live! was beaten by the idol group Momoiro Clover Z’s eleventh single, “Naite mo Iin da yo”, selling a whopping 67,000 copies and becoming their first single to rank number 1 on Oricon’s weekly singles chart. This is their biggest achievement since their last album, “5th Dimension” took the top spot in Oricon’s album chart last April.
