During the recent Treehouse of Horror XXV special of the long-running and highly popular American animated series, The Simpsons, an evil marketing entity has created multiple incarnations of the beloved dysfunctional family, one of which parodies Japanese animation.
Can you guess who they are parodying? Let’s start with Homer who seems to be dressed up as Zoro Roronoa from One Piece, and Marge who was dressed up as Rangiku Matsumoto from Bleach. Naruto is meanwhile parodied by Bart, who has has been likened to the character by some fans, while Lisa seems ready to fight some titans as Mikasa Ackerman… complete with her signature red muffler. Finally, Maggie seems to be inspired from Pokemon’s Pikachu while Spirited Away’s silver dragon, Haku, inspires their pet dog, Santa’s Little Helper.
The Halloween special also pays tribute to other animated series such as Adventure Time and Despicable Me. Earlier this year, the Simpsons also payed tribute to the great Japanese anime director, Hayao Miyazaki, who had already announced his retirement.
During their long run, the Simpsons also had a Japan episode known as 30 Minutes over Tokyo, which poked fun at its kaijuus as well as that Pokemon episode focusing on Porygon which caused some seizures in children.
