Madoka Magica, Love Live!, and others announced as winners for the 19th Kobe Anime Awards

The Kobe Anime Awards are considered one of the most prestigious awards in the Japanese anime industry, and its official website  has finally announced the 19th edition’s winners for the Anime Award, the Individual Award, the Special Award, and the Theme Song Award.

The Individual Award went to anime director Seiji Kishi, best known for directing anime such as Danganronpa, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Hamatora, Angel Beats!, and Carnival Phantasm. He won the award for his work on Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Hamatora.

The special Award meanwhile went to Kyoto Animation, or KyoAni for short. The iconic anime studio has been responsible for works such as K-On!, Full Metal Panic, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, and many others. They won the award for the many masterpieces they have produced.

The Anime Award meanwhile had two winners, and they are Madoka Magica: The Rebellion Story and Love Live!. The third Madoka Magica movie claimed many accolades and was critically acclaimed. It was even considered for an Academy Award for Best Animated Movie. Love Live! on the other hand made the idol genre even more popular in anime and won the award for its lovable characters, and loyal fans.

Finally, the Theme Song Award was given to the OP song for the science fiction mecha anime, Knights of Sidonia, which is titled Sidonia and performed by Angela.

The winners were chosen by a committee of people who work in the industry along with one official from the city of Kobe. The awards ceremony will be held on December 7, 2014.
