There has been a huge increase in the numbers of female anime and manga fans recently and their voices are often as loud (and sometimes even louder) than their male counterparts.
With the rise of live action adaptations of several manga and anime like Rorouni Kenshin, Gatchaman and Haganai, women were asked which series do they want to see a live action adaptation of.
My Navi Woman asked about 200 women online from the ages of 22-34 and here are their results:
Chihayafuru by Yuki Suetsugu
This anime and manga series has been quite well received by female fans. It’s love triangle with a little hint of the Japanese card game Kurata would indeed play well as a live action drama series.
Yu Yu Hakusho by Yoshihiro Togashi
This beloved classic by Yoshihiro Togashi has been loved by female fans not only because of his impressive storytelling but also several characters which would make female fans swoon. One particular example would be Kurama. Female fans have suggested several actors to play the lead role of Yuusuke like Shun Oguri.
Tenshi Nanka ja Nai by Ai Yazawa
One of Nana manga author Ai Yazawa’s most popular works, Tenshi Nanka ja Nai has been quite popular with female anime and manga fans for quite some time. Female fans have admitted to be able to connect with female lead Midori Saejima. They have also suggested several actresses to play her like Yui Aragaki.
Good Morning Call by Yue Takasuka
According to one female fan, its realistic setting would make a great live action movie.
One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
Well, it looks like it’s not just the guys who want a live action adaptation of One Piece. One fan suggested that Fearless and Red Cliff actor Shido Nakamura would be a good fit to play the lead role of Luffy.
Doraemon by Fujiko f. Fujio
Doraemon has been loved by fans both young and old and has been embraced by both genders so it’s not very surprising that female fans would want to see a live action adaptation of this classic series.
Live action adaptations are often a hit or a miss and some female fans have stated that they did not want any of their favorite mangas to be adapted into a live action movie or series. One of the respondents to the poll said that a live action adaptation may corrupt her image of her favorite manga.
Do you agree with their findings?
