With the rise of female anime fans, Animate has given them a proper tribute by organizing an event that is really catered for them. During the first day of the Animate Girls Festival 2014 held in Sunshine City Ikebukuro, which is considered as Japan’s “Fujoshi Holy Land”, there were already plenty of big announcements like UtaPri’s third season and ChibiUsa joining Sailor Moon Crystal. And since this is an anime event, it won’t be complete without cosplay, right?
The cosplayers gathered right outside Sunshine City Ikebukuro and were more than happy to pose for cameras. As expected, plenty of them were from female-oriented anime and games like UtaPri, Diabolik Lovers, and others. There were also cosplays from male-oriented anime which were really popular with women like Attack on Titan and Yowamushi Pedal. Majority of the cosplayers are women so expect plenty of reverse traps in this one.
Meanwhile inside Sunshine Ikebukuro, the booth cosplayers took center stage, and many of them are actually real men
Speaking of booths, one booth in particular got a lot of attention as two of the people selling merchandise in that booth weren’t ordinary shop keepers, but famous voice actors. Inside the Yume Oukoku toNemureru 100-ri no Ouji-sama booth, voice actors Kenji Akabane (The iDOLM@STER’s Producer and Cardfight!! Vanguard’s Kenji Matsuda) and Toshiki Masuda (Haikyuu’s Chikara Ennoshita and Samurai Flamenco’s Masayoshi Hazama), were the ones handling the female-oriented visual novel’s special event-only lottery. As expected, it was flooded with customers.
The Alter and Megahouse booths meanwhile presented plenty of figures which would truly be mouthwatering for any female collector. Alter’s booth was highlighted by the unveiling of the new 1/8 scale Rin Matsuoka figure, as well as some figures from Free! and UtaPri. Megahouse on the other hand was highlighted by Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, One Piece, Black Butler, and Kuroko’s Basketball.
Kotobukiya meanwhile has finally unveiled fully painted prototypes for their Cardcaptor Sakura figures and displayed ones from Black Butler, Tales of Zestria, and Danganronpa.
The Animate Girls Festival 2014 continues until today.
