We are already heading to the midway point of a jam-packed Fall 2014 anime season, and Japanese Men’s lifestyle website, Men Joy! has asked 2,202 anime otaku on which series currently being shown in Japan is the one which they think is the very best among the rest.
The poll not only included the new anime introduced last October like Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014), but it also included anime which have continued on this season such as Sword Art Online II. Voters, which are aged 15 – 45 years old, both male and female, were allowed to vote on multiple series and not just one, unlike most online polls. Here are the results:
10) Girlfriend (Beta): 16.3% of the votes
9) Sailor Moon Crystal: 16.6% of the votes
8) Parasyte :17.2% of the votes
7) Sword Art Online II: 17.8% of the votes
6) Terra Formars: 18.4% of the votes
5) Yowamushi Pedal GRANDE ROAD: 18.7% of the votes
4) Magic Kaito 1412: 19.3% of the votes
3) Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014): 20.5% of the votes
2) Gundam Reconguista in G: 22.6% of the votes
1) The Seven Deadly Sins: 23.8% of the votes
In a rare showing, Sword Art Online II has failed to even reach the Top 5, let alone the #1 spot, which it usually claims in these online anime polls from Japan. The Top Spot instead went to newcomer The Seven Deadly Sins, which came into the Fall 2014 season with a whole lot of hype. It seems that its interesting actions and perverted main character was more than enough to dethrone the almighty SAO II.
#2 meanwhile went to Yoshiyuki Tomino’s latest Gundam series, Gundam Reconguista in G. The anime, with its unique take on the Gundam series, has become very popular in Japan despite the fact that it has divided the Gundam fandom with some anime critics giving it the thumbs down while some giving it such high praise.
#3 went to ufotable’s Fate/ Stay Night which has greatly wowed the fans with its fast-paced action and loyalty to Type Moon’s original visual novel story line.
Three other new series, Magic Kaito 1412, Yowamushi Pedal Grande Road, and Terra Formars, have also upset Sword Art Online II, which only took a very surprising 7th place. Well, you really can’t win them all, huh?
