Giving New Year"s allowance in Japan gets an artistic (and funny) twist

In Japan, there is a tradition called Otoshidama where elders give the younger members of their family their New Year’s allowance. However, sometimes, a few of these “elders” show a bit of their artistic side when giving the envelopes full of money, and some of them are quite funny.

Let’s start things off with a few of them which were inspired by Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan.

and then there are a few weird ones such as these…

And then, there were some who folded up the money in some very artistic ways. Oh, and when your Japanese dad, grandpa, or uncle tells you he’s giving you a million yen for New Year, don’t believe them right away, they might have just folded some money to make it appear as such.

And of course, like the Attack on Titan envelopes seen above, there were also several other anime variations.
