Over the weekend many anime news site (including ourselves) reported that Production I.G President & CEO Mitsuhisa Ishikawa confirmed, at an Anime Expo panel, that a second season of futuristic crime thriller TV anime Psycho-Pass is in the works.
Now, according to an AnimeAnime.JP event report of the same AX panel, it looks like fans might have jumped the gun and misinterpreted what Ishikawa actually said: he confirmed that a continuation or sequel to Psycho-Pass is in the works, but never actually said that this sequel will come in the form of a second TV anime season.
In a summary of Production I.G.’s panel at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, President & CEO Mitsuhisa Ishikawa was asked about a potential sequel to Psycho-Pass.
To this, he only replied “the project is in the works”.
AnimeAnime.JP clarified in their event report that this could mean that there may actually be a season 2 but this reply could also mean that the sequel may come in the form of a movie or an OVA or something else entirely. (For more on anime here on SGCafe).
An official announcement about the Psycho-Pass sequel will be made by Production I.G. come September 6.
Psycho-Pass is written by Gen Urobuchi (Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Suisei no Gargantia) and directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani (Blood + and Blood-C). The anime which ran from October 2012 until March 2013 also gained a cult following .
