During E3 2014, classic Japanese RPG series Dragon Quest was awarded one of the most coveted prizes on Earth, the Guiness World Record. The classic JRPG series, which was first published back in 1986 and created by Enix’s Yuuji Horii and featured artwork by Legendary Dragon Ball manga creator Akira Toriyama, won the Guiness World Record for longest-running Japanese RPG.
The announcement was made both by the Square Enix official website as well as the Guiness Book of World Records twitter page.
Formerly known as Dragon Warrior in North America, the original game was released by Enix for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in May 27, 1986 making it the longest running JRPG in the world and older than 1987′s Final Fantasy which was released by then-rival Square.
Now, the award is given to Square Enix who announced to fans via their official website to stay tuned for more and look forward to more Dragon Quest games in the future.
