As June is about to end to make way for July, new anime are about to take over and replace a few which have just ended. We now take a look at seven new anime fans should watch out for this upcoming Summer 2015 season.
Previously, we presented our list of returning anime that we think fans should continue, and this time, we take a look at new anime. These anime have not yet been officially adapted into an anime in the past, so therefore, you won’t be seeing titles like Dragon Ball Super, Non Non Biyori Repeat, and iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls part 2 here. After careful deliberation and much debating, arguing, and fighting, here are our picks:
Monster Musume
Summer usually means ecchi anime, but out of all of them, the one which has the most hype coming into summer is Monster Musume, which is based on the New York Times bestselling manga by Okayado, which follows an exchange program between humans and monsters. Monster girl fans, rejoice!
Chaos Dragon
Based on the tabletop rpg, Red Dragon, Chaos Dragon is a massive multi-media collaboration featuring characters made by some anime heavyweights, including Gen Urobuchi (Madoka Magica and Aldnoah.Zero), Kinoko Nasu (The Fate series and Tsukihime), and Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!! and Baccano). The story is set in the country of Nil Kamui, which was wiped out in a war.
Sore Ga Seiyuu!
Sore Ga Seiyuu is a behind-the-scenes comedy anime about seiyuus and is based on the manga written by actual seiyuu, Masumi Asano (Ikki Tousen’s Hakufu Sonsaku and Hayate the Combat Butler!’s Risa Asakaze) and illustrated by Hayate the Combat Butler! mangaka, Kenjiro Hata. With the success of anime like Shirobako and Bakuman, which give us a behind-the-scenes look at the anime and manga industries respectively, Sore Ga Seiyuu! is one which should not be missed
God Eater
Based on Bandai Namco’s popular and bestselling video game series, this new anime adaptation depicts humanity’s war against the aragamis. With ufotable animating it, this one is surely going to feature beautiful animation and an engaging story
Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace
Edogawa Ranpo has left an indelible mark in the history of Japanese literature, and Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace is inspired by this literary legend’s works and was made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his passing. The anime is scheduled to be a part of the legendary Noitamina anime block which has produced many anime classics like Honey and Clover, Psycho-Pass, and Nodame Cantabile.
Charlotte
After making us cry with Angel Beats!, Jun Maeda and Key Visual Arts are back with a new original anime titled Charlotte, which explores the lives of teenagers with supernatural powers. Since this is a Key anime, make sure you pack lots of tissues because you may be crying a whole lot… Just like Clannad
Gate
What happens when fantasy and reality meet? This is the premise of Gate, which follows Japan’s Self Defense Force members as they explore a new world which was opened in a “gate” in the middle of Tokyo. This “gate” leads to a world filled with fantastical creatures from elves to dragons and everything in between
