Death Note is getting itself a live-action drama on TV, and two new promotional videos for that upcoming drama have been streamed, and both videos give us a sneak peek at what to expect with this latest live-action adaptation
The first video introduces us to Ryuk, the Shinegami (death god) who gave Light Yagami his Death Note. It also features an introduction on what a Death Note is
The second video meanwhile introduces the human cast. Masataka Kubota, who appeared in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movies as Akira, will play the maon protagonist, Light Yagami while his rival, L, will be played by Kento Yamazaki, who played Koichi in the live-action adaptation of Another. Finally, Mio Yuuki, who appeared in the live-action Assassination Classroom as Yukiko, will be playing as Near, one of L’s two apprentices who will be making his first live-action appearance as the previous live-action movies and the stage musical did not include him. Misa Amane meanwhile will be played by a popular photo idol in Japan named Hinako Sano.
Both videos are teasing a different ending as compared to the previous live-action movies as well as the anime and the original source mangas by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, and it also promises to be “surprising”. The second video meanwhile goes a bit more in detail as it mentions that the new Death Note drama has a new “resolution” with a new story, which suggests that this will be very different from the Death Note we all know.
The new TV show will premiere this July 2015 on NTV. So what do you guys think of this new drama so far?
