We’re just kidding about the “Attack on Barrel” part — that’s not actually what the Attack on Titan themed Pop-Up Pirate (also known as “Kiki Ippatsu”) game toy is called.
If you’ve ever played the game Pop-Up Pirate (Kiki Ippatsu in Japan), then you know how surprising it can be when the pirate flies out of the barrel. With the pirate part of the game replaced by the Colossal Titan you can experience the same surprise Eren felt during episode one of the anime… sort of.
The game is designed to look like the Colossal Titan is being held behind Wall Maria, and it’s up to you as a member of the Survey Corps to take him down before he ‘escapes’ and flies out of the walls.
The usual knives are replaced with Survey Corps members holding 3D-manuveur gear swords, with a color scheme to match their capes. The Attack on Titan Pop-Up Pirate game set comes with twenty four of these swords.
Goods based on the Attack on Titan have generated over 25 million yen in sales thus far. Given the immense popularity of the Kiki Ippatsu Pop-Up Pirate game (it’s pretty much a staple in toy stores all over Japan), Takara Tomy is likely to add to that number substantially with this release.
(With Nendoroids and other figures releasing as late as 2014, I wonder how big that number will balloon into).
Attack on Titan Kiki Ippatsu is sadly only available for pre-order through Takara Tomy’s online retail site, and only until November 25. If you decide to take on the challenge you can pre-order the game here for 2,625 yen and expect it to arrive March 28, 2014.
