When we say manga, the first magazine that comes to mind is Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump! magazine. It has released some of the most beloved mangas in history like One Piece, Naruto and Dragon Ball and it has featured top manga artists and authors.
Manga authors are often celebrated in Japan with fans following all of their works. Some have even become controversial and have received death threats like Attack on Titan’s Hajime Isayama and Kuroko’s Basketball author Tadatoshi Fujimaki.
Now, Japanese media website Goo is ranking the 30 most popular manga authors (also known as mangakas) from Weekly Shounen Jump! and here are their results:

A popular Jump! manga artists did not make it to the top 30 like One Piece’s Eiichiro Oda, Dragon Ball’s Akira Toriyama, Bleach’s Tite Kubo. This is one big surprise since these authors are extremely popular in Japan.
Classic manga author Go Nagai ranked very low at #24 while other beloved mangakas like Hirohiko Araki placed high in the top 10.
