During the ongoing Gunpla Expo World Tour 2013 in Akihabara, gunpla builders all over the world showed off what they can do with a few plastic model kits and a whole lot of imagination.
The event not only showcased what the older crowd could do but the younger ones as well — and boy, did they show those veterans! The hobby’s future certainly looks bright as a 10-year old girl named Mei Hata has won the 14-and-under category.
The 4th grade elementary school student from Hokkaido wowed the expo with her representation of the climactic scene from Char’s Counterattack where mobile suits from both Zeon and the Earth Federation banded together to stop the meteor fragments from falling into Earth.
Meanwhile, 42-year-old Shunpei Yamauchi won the 15-and-above category with his take on another mobile suit from Char’s Counterattack, the mighty Nu Gundam piloted by Amuro Ray.
Delegates who won the qualifying round for Italy, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, North America (U.S. and Canada), China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand will compete with the winners of the Japanese qualifiers during the Gunpla Builders World Cup to be held in Gundam Front Tokyo in Odaiba — near the 1/1 scale RX-78-2 Gundam statue — on December 22, 2013.
Here are the other entries seen during the event held at the Akihabara UDX building.
