In the latest episode of Nintendo Direct, the man in charge of Super Smash Bros, Masahiro Sakurai himself, hogs forty minutes to reveal a ton of new information on Nintendo’s most popular fighting game series.
First of all, Super Smash Bros. 3DS will be released in this summer, and the Wii U version will be released this winter. Secondly, Charizard and the Ninja Pokemon Greninja will be playable characters.
Charizard is no stranger to Smash Bros, as he was featured in Brawl as a member of Pokemon Trainer’s team. This time, however, Charizard will be a standalone character with formidable strength and firepower.
Greninja, on the other hand, is a newcomer to Smash Bros. who moves with shocking speed and strikes hard with his Water Shuriken. He is well known as the fully evolved form of Froakie, the water-type starter Pokemon from X and Y. He is especially famous among online Pokemon gamers because of his hidden Protean ability, which can be unlocked by catching a Frogadier in the Friend Safari.
Together, these two will be joining Pikachu and Lucario as the playable Pokemon in Smash Bros. Oh, and in case you Pokemon fans were wondering, Charizard and Lucario Mega Evolve as their Final Smashes.
Also returning to Smash Bros are Yoshi, Zero Suit Samus, and Sheik. In the previous games, Zero Suit Samus and Sheik were available only by transforming Samus and Zelda, but this time, all the form changing has been removed, so they are now standalone characters like Charizard.
If you’re a Smash Bros. fan, you can watch the entire forty-minute Nintendo Direct here, where Sakurai goes into detail about the stages, characters, online features, Smash Run mode, and more.
