Sword_Art_Online_Volume_01

It seems like annual favorites like Sword Art Online, A Certain Magical Index, The Irregular at Magic High School, and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU were not able to get #1 this year, because 2015 seems to be the year of the goddess Hestia, as she boob strings her way to #1 in terms of sales. It’s the year of DanMachi for light novels, and from the rankings alone, Hestia really has defeated a lot of big names.

Will we get a new Naruto series? New Naruto countdown will lead to the "Next Generation"

Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto series has ended on a high note with Boruto: Naruto the Movie… or did it?

A new Naruto countdown website has been opened, and this one will be leading to the “Next Generation,” and also features the silhouettes of the characters featured in Boruto. Can you guess who they are?

1224

Scheduled to count down to zero at 3:30 p.m. on December 19, 2015, the countdown coincides with the very first day of Shueisha’s Jump Festa event, where there is a scheduled Naruto stage event at 3:00 p.m. JST.

No word yet on what will this countdown lead to, whether it will be a new series by creator Masashi Kishimoto, a new anime featuring Boruto and this new generation of ninjas, or something completely different from what we are expecting. Who knows? I guess we will only find out on December 19.

The Top 20 most pure and innocent anime characters according to Charapedia

In anime, there are characters who are wily and use their brains or knowledge of the world to their advantage, however, there are those anime characters who are so innocent that most of the time, they don’t even know what’s going on or are too pure to even know what that three-letter S word which ends with X means.

For this week’s Charapedia poll, 10,000 anime fans, 59% male, 41% female, were asked to rank the anime characters they think is most pure or most innocent. Of the 74 characters included in the poll, only the Top 20 were announced, and they are:

20) Meiko “Menma” Honma (AnoHana)

19) Index Librorum Prohibitorum (A Certain series)

18) Popura Taneshima (Working!)

17) Torhu Honda (Fruits Basket)

16) Yuki Takeya (School Live!)

15) Umi Sonoda (Love Live!)

14) Haruka Nanami (UtaPri)

13) Cocoa Hoto (Is the Order a Rabbit?)

12) Juushimatsu Matsuno (Mr. Osomatsu)

11) Saika Totsuka (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU)

10) Son Goku (Dragon Ball)

Kid_Goku

9) Chino Kafuu (Is the Order a Rabbit?)

Gochuumon-wa-Usagi-Desu-ka

8) Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)

Monkey_D_Luffy

7) Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura)

4) Akari Akaza (YuruYuri)

3) Kosaki Onodera (Nisekoi)

maxresdefault

2) Eru Chitanda (Hyouka)

hyouka-chitanda

1) Sawako Kuronuma (Kimi ni Todoke)

Sawako

She may look like a scary “vengeful spirit” from The Ring, but when it comes to becoming actually pure and innocent, Sawako actually takes the cake as her moments can trump some of the “achievements in innocence” by some of the characters in this list.

meanwhile, #2 ranked Eru Chitanda is a sheltered rich girl, and this has resulted in her innocence, which has led to her curiousity, which of course has led to Oreki’s constant dismay as he is forced to expend energy. The other members of the Top 5 like Onodera, Akarin, and Yui are no slouches either. While Akari and Yui are legendary for being innocent and pure, Onodera has that shy personality which makes people want to protect her.

Love Live!’s μ’s, AKB48, and more confirmed for this year’s Kouhaku Uta Gasen

After all the speculations, NHK has finally announced the official participants to one of Japan’s most prestigious musical events, the Kouhaku Uta Gassen, or Red and White Song Battle. Only the “cream of the crop” of Japan’s music industry can be invited to the annual New year musical extravaganza, and it is considered a huge honor to be invited to perform.

With the Love Live! School Idol Movie being a big hit and having chart-topping singles here and there, Love Live!’s μ’s have been really popular this year, so much so that they have been confirmed to perform in an event where only the “Top Brass” of the Japanese music industry are invited to join in.

Love Live

Another notable group joining the annual extravaganza is BUMP OF CHICKEN, the group best known for performing the theme song for Blood Blockade Battlefront, who surprisingly has decided to join in this year after years of turning down invites from NHK. This can be attributed for the group’s reluctance to perform on TV, however, they seem to have been mellowing out on the idea of performing on TV recently.

Hiromu Arakawa"s Silver Spoon to return from hiatus in January 2016

Silver Spoon fans, rejoice! After a lengthy hiatus which started last May, Hiromu Arakawa’s agricultural manga, Silver Spoon, will finally be returning in January 27, 2016 in issue #9 of Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine’s 2016 edition.

10365987_768012609900900_5324871364406956496_n

The legendary mangaka, who is also responsible for creating Full Metal Alchemist and illustrating the Heroic Legend of Arslan manga, said she slowed down the pace of the manga due to the declining health of a family member. Last April however, was the end of that family member’s treatment, and Arakawa and said that she will continue making the manga as she watches over her family.

The return has been welcome news for fans who are eagerly awaiting for the manga’s return since May, which subsequently came after a shorter hiatus which lasted until April earlier this year.

Silver Spoon is Arakawa Hiromu’s follow-up to her successful manga series, Full Metal Alchemist. Set in an agricultural school in Hokkaido, it depicts the daily life of  Yuugo Hachiken, a student from Sapporo who had enrolled into the school under the false impression that he will be able to do well because of the easier academic courses. The series has inspired two anime series.

When it comes to dedicated fans, Girls und Panzer has some of them, as many fans regularly make pilgrimages to the areas which where featured in the anime, particularly in the small fishing town of Oarai. However, one such location was not all too happy about them. Most of the locations featured in Girls und Panzer are public locations, however, one location, a golf course known as the Oarai Golf Club, is a private location, which means that not everyone is allowed to enter. However, that did not stop some fans from visiting the location, which prompted the anime’s official twitter page to post this:

The tweet warned fans to observe and respect the rules and regulations of the golf course and not visit the locations featured in the film without permission. The tweet discourages fans from going too wild in golf courses, such as being a bother to players, but also encourages fans to visit the golf course as patrons. The twitter page also announces that the golf course is now working on a tour for fans of the anime.

These are the subtle changes in anime as animators and directors are changed

We often see huge changes in anime when a series changes studios or character designers, with series like My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and Log Horizon providing good examples. However, sometimes, changes in animation are a little more subtle, with fans barely even noticing the changes.

While changing studios or character designers provide big or noticeable changes, changing the director or the animators working on a project sometimes leads to some minor changes, as seen in the example above for the series, Gundam AGE. These are often seen in long-running anime such as One Piece and Dragon Ball, but they can also be seen in other series such as K-On! and A Certain series. Here are a few more examples of the subtle art changes whenever the animators or the anime director is changed, but the anime remains with the same studio:

Dragon Ball (Dragon Ball Super included)

Dragon Ball

Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon Crystal not included)

A Certain series

Hunter x Hunter

One Piece

Now that’s subtle.
