With Japanese animation studio, Shaft, celebrating its 40th anniversary with the Madogatari exhibition, which crosses over two of their most popular works in Madoka Magica and Monogatari, it was announced that a short concept movie related to Madoka Magica will be revealed during the event.
The exact same team behind the Madoka Magica anime, as well as the movies, the Magica Quartet, will be behind this new concept movie. Magica Quartet is comprised of four of the biggest names in the anime industry, Director Akiyuki Shinbo (Monogatari), writer Gen Urobuchi (Fate/ Zero, Aldnoah. Zero), character designer Ume Aoki (Hidamari Sketch), and animation studio Shaft (Nisekoi, Monogatari).
Even after the release and success of the third movie, Madoka Magica: The Rebellion Story, the Magica Quartet have still been doing meetings, and this new concept movie was created out of those meetings. It has been hinted that this might even lead to a new work for Madoka Magica, and this new concept movie will be featuring a new story. Though it hints of a new project for MadoMagi, no official announcements have been made so far.
The Madogatari event’s first stop will be in Tokyo from November 27 to December 2, 2015 at 3331 Arts Chiyoda before moving the show to Osaka’s Herbis Hall from December 22-27, 2015. It will then continue from February 9-14, 2016 in Sapporo. You can also check out which crossover goodies will go on sale for the event through this link.
