In Japan, foreign animation is also regarded as anime, and for this week’s Charapedia Poll, the Japanese anime character database took a look at these foreign anime, and asked its Japanese readers which foreign anime is the one they would recommend the most.
With 10,000 votes (47.7% male, 52.3% female), here is what the fans from Japan had to say:
20 – Aladdin
19 – Adventure Time
18 – Beauty and the Beast
17 – Finding Nemo
16 – Winnie the Pooh
15 – RWBY
14 – The Amazing World of Gumball
13 – Ultimate Spider-Man
12 – Frozen
11 – Star Wars
10 – Phineas and Ferb
9 – Toy Story
8 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
7 – The Loony Tunes Show
6 – South Park
5 – Happy Tree Friends
4 – Spongebob Squarepants
3 – Transformers
2 – Powerpuff Girls
1 – Tom and Jerry
It seems like many Japanese love Tom and Jerry, as their eternal Cat and Mouse act lands them at #1, while Powerpuff Girls, which is loved by many Japanese fans, only takes #2.
Meanwhile, fan favorite, Frozen, which was Japan’s highest grossing animated movie and winner of last year’s Anime of the Year Award for film, did not even take the Top 10, so did RWBY, which was largely aimed at some of Japan’s otaku viewers. But then again, Frozen has such a huge following in Japan, that there may only be a few people to recommend it to.
Oh, and Happy Tree Friends got into the top 10!
