The official twitter page for the new 2016 live-action Death Note film, @Deathnote_2016, has posted new updates, as they have now revealed the main cast for the upcoming movie. The main cast comprises of Masahiro Higashide, Sosuke Ikematsu, and Masaki Suda, and their roles have also been revealed.
Titled Death Note 2016, the film’s story will be set 10 years after the events of the previous Death Note live-action films, which starred Tatsuya Fujiwara as Kira/ Light Yagami, and Kenichi Matsuyama as L.This means that the film will have an original story not found in the manga, anime, stage play, or the live-action TV series, and since the movie will be set 10 years after the first one, it will feature new characters, and all three revealed actors will be playing entirely new characters.
Masahiro Higashide will play Tsukuru Mishima, the main character of the films, and he will be involved with the Death Note Task Force, and is noted to be quite obsessed with Kira and the Death Note case from 10 years ago.
Sosuke Ikematsu will be playing “Ryuzaki,” a detective who is perceived as the successor to L. He will be working with Masahiro Higashide’s character to track down the six Death Notes, as the movie will feature multiple Death Notes.
And finally, Masaki Suda is playing Yuuki Shien, a cyber terrorist who idolized Kira and is seeking the Death Notes using his hacking skills.
The new film will involve more Death Notes and Shinegami than previous adaptations, and will be directed by Gantz live-action movie director, Shisuke Sato. The film is slated to premiere sometime in Autumn 2016.
