BlazBlue TCG Unlimited VS is a card-based take on the 1-on-1 2D fighting game

We’re just hours away from the Japanese and Asian release of BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma for the PS3,

But just in case playing the latest BlazBlue fighting game isn’t enough, Arc System Works has teamed up with SK Japan, the publishers of the Unlimited VS series of trading card games, for a BlazBlue TCG Unlimited VS expansion set.

The BlazBlue TCG Unlimited VS expansion set is only the second intellectual property to have undergone the Unlimited VS treatment; Marvelous Entertainment’s Senran Kagura had been the first.

Unlike other TCGs, however, Unlimited VS rules does not allow cards and characters from one universe to battle it out against those from another franchise. Although all Unlimited VS expansion sets share certain universal icons and features, ultimately each set is designed to be played only with cards from expansion sets that feature the same universe.

So, no, you won’t be able to pit BlazBlue’s Noel Vermillion against Senran Kagura’s Asuka — not in an official tournament, at least. If you own the cards, nobody’s going to stop you.

Another key difference from Unlimited VS and other Japanese TCGs is that SK Japan plans to publish several expansion sets for each individual Unlimited VS franchise — so expect to see expansion sets 2 and 3 for the BlazBlue TCG sometime in the future.

Product details and a release date for the BlazBlue TCG Unlimited VS set have not yet been announced. We’ll bring you more information on the game (card list, illustrations) when it’s available.
