Oarai official previews tank for the Angler Fish Festival [Girls und Panzer]

It’s no secret that tanks and the Japanese town of Oarai in Ibaraki prefecture go well together like warm toasted bread and jam, and this is all thanks to the hit anime series Girls und Panzer.

With the town’s annual Angler Fish Festival coming up on November 17, 2013, the entire town is busy with the preparations. One town official is so excited that he has revealed a tank which is going to be on display for the festival.

Kazuaki Imamura, a municipal councilor for the town of Oarai has posted a picture of himself on top of an unfinished tank via his twitter account.The tank appears to be a Panzer IV which is the tank used my Miho Nishizumi and the Angler Fish team in the anime. Featuring the Angler Fish team’s tank in the annual Angler Fish Festival would be rather fitting.

According to Imamura, the tank has been fabricated by his relatives who have their own factory. He has also stated in his twitter account that the tank will be finished in time for the festival.

The Angler Fish festival is Oarai town’s annual event which is held every November. It would feature the “Tsurushi giri”, an event where a chef would carve up a dangling angler fish to make some angler fish nabe.
