My Teenage Rom-Com SNAFU, also known as Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru or more popularly known as Oregairu has enjoyed a lot of success this year. Not only do they have sold out DVD/ BluRays and light novels, they have also been announced as the #1 light novel series according to “This Light Novel is Amazing! 2014″.
The light novel which had its anime adaptation premiere last Spring 2013 has been successful thanks to its engaging plot and deep characters. Its main character, Hachiman has been consistent in the top 10 in the anime character rankings in a season loaded with other interesting male characters. It has also been adapted into a a visual novel game for the PS Vita.
The light novels are written by Wataru Watari and follows Hachiman Hikigaya, a self-professed loner and introvert who is forced to join the Volunteer’s club where he meets the similarly introverted Yukino Yukinoshita and the outgoing and friendly Yui Yuigahama. The story has been described as the “anti-romantic comedy” by fans.
Oregairu joins an elite group of #1 light novels from the annual magazine. The other winners include “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” (2005 winner), “Full Metal Panic!” (2008 winner), “Baka and Test” (2010 winner), “A Certain Magical Index” (2011 winner) and “Sword Art Online” (2012 and 2013 winner).
The rest of the rankings can be found in “This Light Novel is Amazing! 2014″. The magazine is now available online via Amazon.com for 550 yen and also includes character rankings for both male and female light novel characters.
