Shishio Makoto is one of the most iconic anime villains out there and the staff of the live action Rurouni Kenshin movie most certainly do not want to disappoint the fans.
Last November 3, 2013, the press visited the set for the two sequel movies, Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire and Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend, at the Shounai movie village in Yamagata Prefecture. The press got a sneak peek when they saw the filming of a scene which involved Kenshin Himura (played by Takeru Satoh) being taken by Soujiro Seta (played by Ryunosuke Kamiki) to Makoto Shishio’s residence.
It was revealed by the costume designer for all three movies, Kazuhiro Sawataishi, that actor Tatsuya Fujiwara is not really wrapped by bandages from head to toe just like in the mangas and anime but he is actually wearing a a suit made out of material similar to hard plaster. This was all to faithfully recreate Shishio’s signature bandaged look.
Rurouni Kenshin director Keishi Ootomo also revealed that it takes an hour for Fujiwara to wear the Shishio suit. Tatsuya Fujiwara also reveals that it is hard to hear while wearing the suit and he feels like he is wearing a very heavy wetsuit.
More behind-the-scenes images have also been posted including Kenshin’s duel with Soujirou.
Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire) will premiere on August 1, 2014 while Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: The End of a Legend) will hit Japanese theaters on September 13, 2014.
