The 2014 edition of the New York Toy Fair featured the very best toys all over the world and with big names like McFarlane, NECA and Hasbro showing off their latest toys and figures, how did Japanese companies fare? Well, they most certainly turned a lot of heads as Bandai, Square Enix, Kotobukiya and 3A all showed the world what they can do.
Let’s start off with Bandai which was highlighted by their Tamashii Nations and SH FiguArts lines. What is perhaps their most popular offerings came from the classic anime Digimon along with their usual tokusatsu and mecha offerings. They also impressed everyone with their Naruto, Tiger & Bunny and Dragon Ball figures which have proven to be big hits back in the States.
However, one figure rose above all and became Bandai’s most talked about offering: SH FiguArts Micheal Jackson
Kotobukiya on the other hand showed the world what they can do with their Tekken, Street Fighter, DC and Marvel Bishoujo figures along with their Metal Gears, ArtFX figures and more… and yes, they turned horror icons Freddy and Jason into Bishoujo figures as well
Speaking of Metal Gear, Good Smile Company affiliate 3A also showed off their own Metal Gear Ray and it was huge.
Finally, we go to Square Enix’s presentation which was highlighted by what else? Play Arts Kai! They featured many interesting video game and super hero themed figures from Final Fantasy and DC as well as their new SD figures from their static arts line.
