When Dengeki Bunko’s upcoming fighting game, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax was announced, light novel and anime fans were buzzing if Sword Art Online‘s heroic Black Swordsman, Kirito will be joining. With the newest playable character announcement however, it would seem that fans need not worry anymore as he finally joins the highly anticipated cross-over brawl.
The dual wielding swordsman from Sword Art Online will be using his Elucidator and Dark Repulser to fight the likes of Shana from Shakugan no Shana, Mikoto Misaka from the A Certain Series, and more, including two very unlikely combatants in Ro-Kyu-Bu’s Tomoka and OreImo’s Kirino.
And yes, he will also be fighting his girl friend Asuna and Accel World’s Kuroyukihime who many fans have been speculating to be his daughter even before both series have gotten their anime adaptations. Both Sword Art Online and Accel World are written by Reki Kawahara with the latter series set 20 years after Sword Art Online. Kawahara has neither denied nor confirmed if this is true however.
Kirito will only be the second playable male character from the main roster with the first being Durarara!’s monster of a bar tender, Shizuo Heiwajima. Virtua Fighter’s Akira Yuuki will be appearing as a boss character while A Certain Series Kamijou Touma, Hataraku Maou-sama!’s Maou Sadao and others are confirmed as support characters.
