The Tokyo Anime Award Festival is one of the most prestigious events in the anime industry as it presents one of its most sought after awards, the Anime of the Year, along with other prizes like Best Director, Best OVA, Best TV Anime and many more.
This year, the festival is trying to do something different as fans get to choose which anime series or movie for the festival’s newest award, the Fan Award. It will be given to the anime series or feature film which will get the highest number of votes online through the event’s official voting website: http://vote.animefestival.jp/
Though the site is in Japanese, fans abroad can still vote for their favorite anime series. Voting has already begun and it will only be until March 9, so if you want your favorite anime to win and you want your voice to be heard, vote now. Only the top 20 anime with the highest votes get to compete in the finals. The winner of this award will be announced on March 22, 2014.
You can also view which series is currently in the lead. As of 8:00 am (GMT+8), the results show that Psycho-Pass is on top with Love Live!, Madoka Magica: The Rebellion Story, Valvrave the Liberator and Danball Senki Wars taking #2, #3, #4 and #5 respectively. The results are updated daily.
Only anime which were shown from the period of November 1, 2013 – October 31, 2013 qualify so if you are looking for newer titles like Super Sonico the Animation or Witchcraft Works, they are not eligible to qualify.
The event will be held at the Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi from March 20-23, 2014 and will feature the biggest names in the anime industry. The most anticipated award in the event is the Anime of the Year which has been given to such big names like Spirited Away (2002), Gundam SEED (2004), The Girl Who Leaped Through Time (2007) and Summer Wars (2010).
